Chinese Company Wants To Launch Solar Panels Into Space To Generate Electricity 24 Hours

A company from China wants to launch solar panels into space to enable electricity to be generated 24 hours a day. The project will be developed by Longi Green Energy Technology Company based in Xi'an.

This year China said it successfully conducted tests of emitting electricity from solar panels in space by sending it back to earth via microwaves. This is another effort to reduce China's dependence on electricity generating systems using fossil fuels.

Previously China announced they wanted to start generating electricity using solar panels in space by 2028 which was changed from the original date of 2025. The project by Longi is the first step to make them the first country capable of doing so.

Various of the world's largest solar farm projects have been operating in China and the country is also producing man-made suns to realize cleaner fusion nuclear reactors. In addition to China, the European Union has also announced its desire to generate electricity in space by 2025.
