Donald Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts were suspended in January 2021 after being used to incite followers to attack the Capitol building. Use of the account for riotous purposes violates Meta's terms and conditions at that time. In an interview with Semafor, Nick Clegg who is the president of global affairs said Trump may be allowed to return to the platform in January 2023.
The suspension of both his accounts will end in January 2023. Therefore Meta will first take expert opinion to consider the pros and cons of allowing Trump to return.
Before being suspended he had over 35 million followers on Facebook and 23.3 million followers on Instagram. Although he now has a personal social media platform Truth Social, the number of Trump followers on this site is only around 4 million.
