The news of the disappearance of the iPhone Mini has been circulating since 2020, shortly after the iPhone 12 Mini was released, and now the news has become real because the iPhone 14 line no longer includes a mini variant, its position has instead been replaced with the iPhone 14 Plus which has a bigger screen.
Since it was first released, the mini version of the iPhone actually has a user base that looks big. Namely mobile phone users who are not comfortable using mobile phones with large screens.
However, the sales data said otherwise. From the beginning, Apple was said to have miscalculated the interest of its users in small screen phones, and was said to have been forced to cut the number of iPhone 12 Mini production, due to low sales, with a single-digit percentage compared to sales of other iPhone series.
Based on estimated data from Statista, shipments of cellphones with screen sizes of 5-5.5 inches will only be around 13.5% during 2022. Meanwhile, shipments of cellphones with screens above 6 inches are 40%.
Statista data also shows that over the past few years, shipments of cellphones with small screens have been decreasing, losing prestige to large screen phones.
Whereas the iPhone 12 Mini (and iPhone 13 Mini) on paper is actually interesting. The specifications are the same as the variant with a larger screen. Or in other words, having the specifications of a 2020s mobile phone, but with a body as small as a 2010s mobile phone.
Then the iPhone Mini can be said to have no competitors from the Android camp. There are no phones with flagship specifications whose screens are below 5.5 inches. Asus Zenfone 9, for example, has a 5.9-inch screen, as well as the Pixel 6A, which has a 6.1-inch screen.
However, this iPhone Mini has one fatal drawback, namely the battery capacity is too small. So it is difficult for the phone to last for a full day with heavy usage.
And now, for those of you who like phones with small screens, so far, there's been no choice but the iPhone 13 Mini. Yes, even though no successor has been made, Apple is still selling this phone. Maybe it's just spending the stock of cellphones that have already been produced.
Goodbye iPhone Mini...
