Apple has today distributed the iOS 16 operating system update to eligible iPhones. With this update, users can enjoy a more customized screen lock, tighter security by guaranteeing user safety and privacy, Face ID support in horizontal position, deleting messages that have been sent using iMessage and more.
Along with that, Google also took the opportunity to announce widget support for their various apps to be used on the iPhone's lock screen. Applications that will have this support are Search, Chrome, Drive, Google Maps, Gmail and Google News.
The widget for search allows users to search for something using voice, direct translation or using Google Lens. As for Chrome, users can directly launch this web browser from the lock screen and play dinosaur games.
For Drive, it will suggest files, directly access favorite files or access pinned files. For Google Maps, they come with a Maps Frequent Trips widget that can display real-time traffic, estimated arrival times, or destination searches.
The Gmail widget will display the number of unread emails by inbox, while Google News comes with quick news that needs to be clicked to read more. This widget is still in the update phase and according to Google it will arrive to all users in a few weeks.
