Google Maps is a mapping application that we use frequently when doing assignments abroad. Walking in Tokyo, Berlin, New York, San Francisco and Bangkok is made easier with the Live View feature that provides travel directions to the destination complete with augmented reality features.
At the Google Search On 22 event this morning, Maps has been updated with several features that will make it more useful. Live View now has quick links for common searches such as ATM machines, pay phones and restaurants. When pressed, Live View will show directions to the nearest location without the user having to type it as before. The new Live View can be used in Search with Live View starts rolling out in London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Paris and Tokyo in the near future on Android and iOS devices.
The previously announced Immersive View supports only some of the world's most popular landmarks in a realistic 3D view. Now as many as 250 landmarks are fully supported such as Oracle Park in San Francisco. This feature will be supported in the cities of Los Angeles, London, New York, San Francisco and Tokyo when users use the application on Android and iOS.
