In contrast to the iPhone 14 Pro (and iPhone 14 Pro Max) which have a number of interesting updates, the iPhone 14 only has a slight improvement compared to the iPhone 13.
In fact, Apple could actually have given the iPhone 13 and called it the iPhone 14. In terms of performance, there's actually nothing wrong with what Apple did, because even the iPhone 13 still has good performance.
But because it was released at the same time, this makes the iPhone 14 a very different phone than the iPhone 14 Pro. Including because it still uses the old school notch that has existed since the iPhone X, not using the current Dynamic Island hole punch like the iPhone 14 Pro.
iPhone 13 vs iPhone 14 comparison
Screen: On paper, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 screens are the same. The screen used is 6.1 inch Super Retina XDR OLED which supports Dolby Vision. The brightness level is 800 nits but can be increased to 1200 nits. It has a refresh rate of 60Hz and a resolution of 1170 x 2532 pixels (460 ppi), and has a ceramic and oleophobic glass coating.
Dimensions: Dimensionally, both are the same. But the weight of the iPhone 14 is slightly lighter, at 172 grams while the iPhone 13 weighs 174 grams. The frame is both aluminum, has an IP68 rating, and is also coated with Gorilla Glass.
Chipset: Almost the same. Both of them use the A15 Bionic 5nm, but the iPhone 14 has a 5-core GPU, while the iPhone 13 has only 4 GPU. But the performance of the two should not have a significant difference. The storage options are the same, namely 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and uses 4GB of RAM.
Camera: Even in this sector there is almost no difference. The front camera is both 12MP with a biometric and depth sensor. Then the rear camera also has the same configuration, 12MP with maximum 4K 60fps video recording. The difference? iPhone 14 can record cinematic videos.
With all these similarities, iPhone 13 users don't seem to need to be tempted to buy an iPhone 14. Even if you want to upgrade and don't want to choose the iPhone 14 Pro, maybe the iPhone 14 Plus might even be an attractive choice, because of the large screen size but the price is still economical (not as expensive as Pro Max variant).
