Matterport is a company that manufactures camera systems that scan space in 3D. This scanned space can then be used to become a model that the user can move around virtually in. Matterport technology was used at the National Gallery of Art for users to visit it virtually during the pandemic last year.
To meet the need for more precise, accurate and fast scans, the Matterport Pro3 camera has been launched. The camera is capable of scanning using a 20MP sensor as well as LiDAR. A total of 100,000 points within a range of 0.5 meters to 100 meters can be scanned per second.
The biggest change in the Pro3 compared to the Pro2 is that millions of polygon points can be scanned instead of the previous limit of 50,000 polygon points. With this, more accurate and precise 3D objects can be reproduced in virtual space.
It is also lighter at 2.2 kilograms and 35% smaller. Pro3 is compatible with existing Matterport software. For those interested, the Matterport Pro3 3D scanner camera is sold at a price of $5995 (~RM26,881) apiece.
