The Minister of Communications and Multimedia has now stated that the government will ensure the implementation of 5G in Malaysia as planned, even though there are two telecommunications companies that do not want to take a stake in Digital Nasional Berhad.
Due to two companies pulling out, there are several discussions that need to be redone – leading to a delay in focusing on service offerings.
Touching on this, TS Annuar Musa stated that the ministry maintains the existing planning timeline, which is the introduction as soon as possible this month, although the possibility of negotiations if it reaches the end of September, then the introduction should be done by the beginning of October at the latest.
For now, only Yes offers 5G services to the public. Other telecommunications companies such as Celcom, Maxis, U Mobile, Telekom Malaysia and Digi are expected to offer their 5G services starting this September in a number of selected locations.
In terms of location, DNB now offers 5G services in the Klang Valley, Selangor, Johor, Penang and also Ipoh.
