Technology figures like Elon Musk believe that the advancement of artificial intelligence technology will be the backbone of a country that wants to become a world power in the future. It can be seen now that quantum computers are being built in the United States and China to enable more complex calculations to be done quickly for the purpose of developing artificial intelligence.
But in a move to prevent China from taking the lead in this field, the United States is now preventing NVIDIA and AMD from selling artificial intelligence chips to China and Russia. The license to export artificial intelligence technology from the United States has been tightened immediately starting today to prevent it from being used for military purposes in both countries.
NVIDIA can now no longer sell their A100 CPU and H100 GPU which are specially designed for artificial intelligence processing. AMD stopped selling the MI250 chip used to drive artificial intelligence systems.
The United States tightened technology restrictions recently preventing EUV manufacturing machines and any technology capable of producing chips with 3nm technology and below from being sold to China. The CHIPS Act last July also prevents companies that want to get US funds from expanding production and building new factories in China.
Although China is seen as the factory of the world, the majority of chip manufacturing technology is held by the United States. China's efforts to develop its own technology are still lagging behind with them only managing to produce locally made 11nm chips but with low yields.
