Volvo Introduces System to Detect Babies Left in Vehicles

The tragedy of children being left in vehicles occurs every year with the case gaining media attention every time it happens. Often times parents forget because they are chasing time and there is no system in place to warn if a child is left behind. Starting with the Volvo EX90, Volvo will include this feature on their production vehicles.

The radar system will detect the presence of passengers in front and behind all the way to the cargo area. In addition to human passengers, animals left behind can also be detected by this Volvo system. If it detects movement on the passenger side, the vehicle's center console will alert the driver to check before the vehicle is locked.

If the vehicle has been locked and the system detects movement in the cabin, the air conditioning and heating systems will be activated automatically to prevent passengers from suffering from heat stroke or hypothermia.

This is another safety system on the EX90. Volvo has already announced that a camera system capable of detecting drivers who are drunk, drowsy and using smartphones will be used in the EX90 launched this November. A warning will be given before the vehicle is automatically stopped if the driver still fails to concentrate on the road.
