AMD Will Not Use 12VHPWR Power Plugs For Their Radeon RX 7000 Series Graphics Cards

NVIDIA is currently facing a problem with the 12VHPWR power plug used on the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card where the power cable has the possibility of overheating, which will cause the cable head to burn.

Recently, AMD has confirmed that for the time being, they will not be using the 12VHPWR power plug for the time being for their latest graphics card, which is the soon to be launched AMD Radeon RX 7000 series of graphics cards.

This was confirmed by the General Manager of AMD Radeon, Scott Herkelman himself through a tweet on Twitter saying that the series of graphics cards, which will come with the RDNA 3 graphics chip will not use the power plug.

AMD will also reportedly continue to use two 8-pin PCIe power plugs for these latest graphics cards, while PCIe looks for and fixes problems that appear as a result of these new power plugs.
