The iPhone 14 Plus is a new category of iPhone for 2022. This is the first time a "Plus" model has been introduced since the iPhone 8 Plus five years ago. This large-sized iPhone is Apple's new strategy to attract people's attention to have an iPhone with a large-sized screen like the iPhone 14 Pro Max at a lower price.
Apple opened iPhone 14 Plus pre-orders in Malaysia on September 15 with sales starting on October 7. Now, Apple has reportedly stopped production of the iPhone 14 Plus because it did not receive a good response.
This is actually not a surprising news, as Apple reportedly boldly ordered 90 million iPhone 14 even though the market is predicted to shrink. Then after about two weeks of pre-orders open, Apple reduced the production of iPhone 14 up to 6 million units.
Sources say Apple is less confident about consumer interest in iPhones with larger screens. In addition to sources, two Apple suppliers responsible for iPhone components specifically for the large screen are cutting production by up to 70% to 90%.
This is also the case with the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 13 Mini, where the screen is too small to receive a positive response. The selling price of the iPhone 14 Plus is also quite high, starting at RM4,699 for 128GB storage and reaching up to RM6,199 for 512GB – for iPhones powered by last year's chip.
