Earlier this year, there were reports that Tencent wanted to take over Black Shark from Xiaomi. After the initial report no more news emerged about this purchase. But according to reports from China, Tencent canceled their wish and as a result Black Shark will lay off up to 50% of the workforce.
What is affected is the staff involved in the development of the set to standalone VR. This may also be the reason why Black Shark has yet to offer a new device that uses the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip when they would traditionally launch a new device with a more powerful chip in the second half of the year.
