Boeing B-52H Design With Eight New Engines Revealed

The Boeing B-52 made its first flight in 1952 and operated as a nuclear strategic bomber of the United States since 1955. After the end of the cold war, it was later converted into a tactical bomber in Afghanistan with plans to make it a launch platform for a missile fleet. After operating for 70 years, the United States Air Force (USAF) wants to extend the operation of this veteran aircraft to 2052.

Last year Rolls Royce won the contract to supply the Rolls Royce F-130 engine to replace the current Pratt & Whitney TF33-P-3 engine. With the engines selected, the B-52H aircraft design with eight larger engines was shared for the first time. With a more modern design, the aircraft will reduce fuel consumption by up to 50% in addition to requiring a longer period before maintenance.
