Bytedance launched their Resso music streaming service in India in 2020 before it later expanded to Indonesia and Brazil. Now according to a WSJ report, Bytedance is planning to expand Resso to twelve more countries in the near future.
This will then be the next step before Resso is launched globally. Through Resso, users can continue to stream the music they listen to on TikTok directly without having to search for it on other music streaming platforms. An interesting strategy considering that it is a trend for popular music to first be on TikTok before it becomes popular on the radio.
Resso faces huge competition from Spotify and Apple Music who currently have a large market share. Like Spotify, Resso offers free streaming with ad support between music.
