Elon Musk was ordered by a court judge in California to complete the purchase of Twitter by 5pm on October 28. If Musk and Twitter fail to reach an agreement on the terms of the purchase by that date, they will have to return to court in November to settle the lawsuit filed by both parties.
Twitter's lawyers say Musk's announcement to buy back Twitter for $44 billion this week is just an excuse to delay the trial after he was dragged into breaching the original sale and purchase agreement. Previously he was reported to be asking for a 30% discount from the original sale price with Musk saying Twitter was an important step to realizing the all-in-one X application.
