Google Messages Updated With New Icons – Focusing On RCS

Google is focusing on a new messaging method which is RCS through Google Messages. They believe that RCS is a more secure method of messaging than iMessage and also asked Apple to include this feature.

Not only that, Google also stated that if you don't want to use RCS - WhatsApp is also more secure than iMessage. Now, Google Messages has been updated with a new icon focusing more on RCS. In addition to the new icon design, several features have also been added;

Among the following features is when a YouTube link is sent, users can continue to watch the video in Google Messages. Then the ability to give emoji reactions to iMessage was also developed. Google Messages will also suggest if a message should be starred if it is found to be an important message.

If there is text with time, date and location – it can also be saved in Google Calendar, give suggestions to schedule Google Meet and more. Text transcription support for voice messages will also be expanded, now no longer limited to the Pixel 7 but can be used on the Pixel 6, Pixel 6a, Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Fold4.

In selected countries, RCS can also be used in airplanes if there is a WiFi connection. Google will also continue E2EE encryption on Google Messages which is expected to be completed in 2023 to guarantee user security and privacy.

Google also stated that this new icon design is to be aligned with the use of the Material You theme. In addition to Google Messages, Google Contact also received a new icon update and in the future Google Phone will also use more or less the same design.
