A few months ago; Google, Apple and Microsoft announced that they will include FIDO Alliance standard support in their products for a world without passwords. Now Google seems to have started offering this feature for Android devices as well as Chrome.
This feature is named as Passkey and it cannot be phished, reused, leaked on the server and can protect the user from any attack. It is a replacement for passwords and a more secure alternative.
With this passkey, users can create it through an Android device and it will be synced through Google Password Manager which is guaranteed to have strict security. Developers can also include passkey support on websites or applications with the WebAuthn API.
How to register passkey is also easy, users only need to verify the Google account they want to use and then verify with a fingerprint scan, password or face scan. To use it, just select the account that has been registered and confirm with the scan earlier.
Apart from Android and apps, passkey will also support Chrome web browser. Users can use the passkey stored in their Android or iOS device to log in to websites that support it. Passkey is also enabled on Safari on Mac and because it is a feature that uses the FIDO Alliance standard, it can also be used on macOS, iOS, ChromeOS and Windows to facilitate all users with security guarantees.
