The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) will control plane ticket fares for citizens returning to vote according to Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong yesterday. This action was taken after complaints appeared on social media when ticket fares to destinations across the country increased up to 100% immediately after the Election Commission (SPR) announced the voting date for GE 15 on 19 November 2022.
Fares increase sharply because of the dynamic pricing mechanism used by airlines immediately after seeing increased demand on a particular date. Mavcom will take action against airlines found to increase fares excessively.
Tickets also soared during GE 14 four years ago with several local airlines taking action to set ceiling prices for some destinations such as Sabah and Sarawak.
