Samsung is no stranger to various wearable device products such as the Galaxy Watch5 smart watch or the Galaxy Fit2 smart bracelet. Recently, Samsung is reported to be developing a smart ring with the same features as a smart wristband, which is to monitor the fitness and health of users.
Samsung is said to have already registered a patent for a smart ring with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office). This ring will have an optical pulse scanner and have sensors for ECG. The ring is also claimed to be able to be used to control their smartphone, tablet or television as a product for the SmartThings ecosystem.
Samsung is currently looking for various firms that can supply sensors, modules and materials to develop this smart ring. This ring is said to be a replacement for smart bracelets, as it will have a longer battery life due to the lack of a screen and will be more stylish and easy to wear.
This is not the first time that Samsung has reportedly wanted to come up with a smart ring. In 2015, they once filed a patent for a more or less identical product – but more of a remote control only.
