Signal Will Discontinue SMS And MMS Support On Android Apps

It is not uncommon for a third-party messaging application to be set as the default application for receiving SMS or MMS. But this capability is limited to Android devices, for example the Facebook Messenger application if installed there will be an option to make it the default SMS application. Likewise with the Signal application.

Recently, Signal announced that SMS and MMS support for their Android app will be discontinued. This feature was actually introduced when Signal was still known as TextSecure, which is an SMS application that focuses on user privacy and security. At that time, the encryption protocol used was Axolotl.

Now that Signal has become a social media platform, or a messaging service that guarantees user safety – they already have a new vision and mission. So it's about time they stop offering SMS and MMS and focus on online messaging only to be able to compete with WhatsApp, Telegram and others.

SMS and MMS are also getting less and less used because of RCS by Google and also iMessage by Apple.
