The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission now says it is open for more telecommunication companies to join the Malaysian market.
This is shared in parallel with the combination of Digi and Celcom in the current process, and is expected to be fully completed in 2023.
MCMC stated that they are not against this consolidation process, nor the takeover.
Previously, there were also rumors that Maxis and U Mobile might work together or unite - but both companies are ready to deny the matter.
With the merger of Celcom and Digi, it may lead to a slightly reduced level of competition. But, with the infrastructure offered by DNB, it is not impossible that more brands also join the local market.
