During the MCO, the internet access gap between users in and outside the city was revealed to the public. Rural students have to climb trees just to get a cellular internet network to follow online learning. Therefore, this gap needs to be bridged immediately to prevent rural people from being left behind.
Tenaga Nasional Berhad will pilot the implementation of the Rural Internet Project by using electric cables. This project will benefit over 60 thousand rural residents and is supported through a matching grant of 25 million ringgit. This project moves in parallel with the fiber optic network project in the suburbs that has been started since 2018 through their subsidiary Allo Technology.
