Ugreen 100W GaN Fast Charger Review – Universal Fast Charger of Choice

We now live with various gadgets and it is almost impossible to live without using them. The situation is now more complicated because all these devices need to be charged every day with each of them supporting different charging formats. Oppo with SuperVOOC, Huawei with SuperCharge and Apple with USB PD.

The situation becomes even more difficult when users go out to travel. How many chargers should be carried and which charging head should be preferred. I have been faced with a situation where the phone only charges at a slow rate because I brought the wrong charger while abroad.

Ugreen 100W GaN Fast Charger tries to solve this problem by offering a fast charger that supports various popular charging standards. Is this the best all-in-one charger on the market right now?

Specifications And Design

This Ugreen 100W GaN Fast Charger is also offered as the Ugreen Nexode 100W Charger, supporting fast charging standards USB Power Delivery 3.0, Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0+, PPS charging, Adaptive Fast Charging, Apple 5V2.4A and BC1.2 on the USB-C port. While on the USB-A port, it supports Super Charge Protocol, Quick Charge 3.0, Fast Charge Protocol, Apple 5V2.4A and BC1.2.

There are a total of four charging ports on the top – three USB-C and one USB-A. USB-C 1 and USB-C 2 ports can reach up to 100W, while USB-C 3 and USB-A ports charge at a maximum power of 22.5W. All four charging ports can be used simultaneously. Ugreen includes the Ugreen Power-X protection chip and guarantees that when charging the device it will only have a temperature of 35 degrees.

Ugreen also provides a guide on how to use the charger correctly which I find very helpful. With the chart below, I can year the maximum power supplied by each port depending on the port combination used.

Usage Experience

This charger was initially only used on my Huawei Matebook 14S laptop which required a Huawei SuperCharge 90W charger. The computer charges like using the original charger provided with the battery charged up to 50% within an hour without any issues.

But when two ports are used, my laptop can only receive 65W of power and the 2 USB-C ports can charge the device at a rate of 30W. This allows smartphones such as Z Flip4, iPhone 14 and Nothing Phone (1) to be charged simultaneously and quickly. Charging up to three devices is also no issue with the output of all three ports lowered as shown in the graphic above.

I then charged the OnePlus 10T which supports 150W SuperVOOC. In the tests done, I'm sure it charges at 65W like the Warp Charge standard because the device can be charged quickly in less than an hour.

For Apple device owners, three iPhones/iPads can be charged simultaneously at the fastest charging power. I tested charging iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Plus without any issues because all three only need 20W. I also use this charger to charge watches such as Amazfit GTR 4, Xiaomi Smart Band 7 Pro and Apple Watch Series 7.

All devices charge perfectly without overheating issues. The only thing that gets hot is the charger itself but that's only lukewarm and can still be held. This is in contrast to other chargers that have been reviewed on us such as the Innergie which gets very hot during use.

Conclusion

This Ugreen 100W GaN Charger has helped make my life easier. So far if I go back to the village, I only bring one charger and no longer need to bring as many chargers as before. Although there is not much weight difference in my bag, at least my bag gives me extra space to fill other things.

The selling price is around RM200 depending on where you buy it. On Shopee the price is RM205 to RM219. Ugreen also sells a 100W PD charging cable for under RM60. This cable can also charge multiple devices, so if the phone is already charged, you can use one cable to charge the laptop.

This price in my opinion is actually not expensive if you think about the advantages, compared to buying a basic 30W PD charger many times with a build that is not durable, limited with one to two ports and others. If you have a lot of chargers this is the best solution in my opinion and I highly encourage you to try to have a GaN charger like this that not only supports high power but has four charging ports.

Pro

Compact size, compact and light.

Supports many fast charging standards.

The charger does not heat up easily even when charging many devices.

Four built-in charging ports.

Cons

Still doesn't support fast charging for device manufacturers with their own standards.

Relatively expensive.
