USB4 2.0 Standard Announced With Speeds Reaching 120Gbps

The new USB4 Version 2.0 standard was announced by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) today with it supporting data transmission of up to 120Gbps one-way or 80Gbps two-way. This is done using four lanes where each lane supports data transfer up to 40Gbps. This is an improvement from the original USB4 standard which supported data transfer up to 40Gbps.

In the case of USB4 Version 2.0, upload data transmission is up to 120Gbps but at the same time also supports 40Gbps download data simultaneously. This high data transfer rate targets displays with resolutions above 4K, high refresh rates for video games, HDR support and simultaneous multi-screen support.
