Tan Sri Annuar Musa now shared that around 12 million phone users will have access to the 5G network by the end of 2022.
This is focusing on retail 5G network coverage to the public – rather than tower build-based coverage rates.
Previously, a total of 5 telecommunications companies had signed 5G network usage agreements with DNB - including Celcom, Unifi Mobile, and U Mobile. Digi has also signed an agreement, but has not yet given the date of its introduction for now.
Meanwhile, Maxis is still at the review stage, and has not signed an agreement with DNB for the time being.
For now, the 5G network is offered only in a few locations, including Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, Ipoh, Penang, Johor Bahru, Seremban, Melaka, and some other areas. To use it as well, users need to have a supported 5G device in Malaysia.
