Amazon Shows off Cargo Drones That Can Fly in the Rain

Many may not realize that although there have been many commercial drones launched so far, the majority of them cannot fly in the event of rain. This is one of the main obstacles why the cargo delivery drones that have been developed are still not able to replace the vans, trucks and motorcycles that are used now. Amazon is one of the companies that invest a lot of money to use drones and now they show that the MK30 drone can fly even in the pouring rain.

The MK30 design is the same as the MK27-2 Prime Air drone that began operations in the middle of this year. Six electric fans are arranged in a hexagonal configuration with small wings for horizontal flight.

In addition to the ability to fly in light rain, the fan design has also been changed to reduce noise by up to 25%. The MK30 drone will conduct flight tests in late 2022 with Amazon targeting it to begin operations by 2024.
