AMD shows off RX 7900 XTX with RDNA 3, how much does it cost?

AMD has finally introduced a new line of graphics cards that use the RDNA 3 architecture, including the RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT.

These two graphics cards will only be released on December 13, and will immediately begin shipping to customers, both reference graphics cards from AMD and from OEMs.

The 7900 XTX is predicted to be a graphics card for 4K gaming and is claimed to be 1.7x faster than the 6950 XT at 4K resolution. The number of compute units is 96 and operates at 2.3 GHz and is paired with GDDR6 memory with a capacity of 24GB.

At 4K resolution, AMD promises the 7900 XTX can play Cyberpunk 2077 at a frame rate of 62fps, with ray tracing and AMD Fidelity FX Super Resolution turned on.

While in esports level games (medium setting and 1440p resolution), such as Apex Legends, Overwatch 2, and Valorant, the frames obtained reach 300 fps, 600 fps, and 833 fps.

When compared with the RTX 4090, it seems that AMD puts forward the power efficiency of this chip, because the power consumption is 'only' 350W, not 450W like the RTX 4090.

While the 7900 XT's capabilities are certainly lower than the XTX variant, with 84 compute units with 2GHz speed and 20GB GDDR6 320 bits and 300W power consumption.

AMD also claims that RDNA3 is much more efficient than RDNA2, because its performance per watt is 54% higher.

The use of GDDR6 instead of GDDR6X has advantages in the power efficiency sector. In addition, this AMD graphics card also doesn't need a special connector for power like the RTX 4000, but only needs two regular 8 pin connectors.

On the other hand, Nvidia, with higher power consumption and needing new connectors, is even reported to be in trouble, because there are reports of a number of melted connectors and are currently still being investigated by Nvidia.

Regarding the price, the 7900 XTX will be priced at USD 999 and the 7900 XT USD 899. This means that this new line of graphics cards costs much more than the previous generation graphics cards.

For example, the 6950 XT, the fastest graphics card from the previous generation, costs USD 849, while the 6900 XT is only USD 679. But keep in mind, when the price of the two graphics cards was first released, they were even higher, namely USD 1099 and USD 1000.

Indeed, it hasn't beat the price of graphics cards from the far more sovereign green camp, for example the RTX 4080 which costs USD 1,199 and the RTX 4090 which costs USD 1,599, as quoted by The Verge, Monday (7/11/2022).

The presence of the RTX 4000 competitor from the red camp is much awaited by PC lovers, especially to see the specifications and comparison of its capabilities compared to the RTX 4000 line.

So far, competition for graphics cards at the highest level is still dominated by the green and red camps, aka Nvidia vs AMD. The reason is that in the blue camp or Intel, which has just penetrated the GPU sector, it turns out that it has not played to the upper class, but is still in the middle class.
