Apple is one of the largest customers of chip maker TSMC, where their collaboration began in 2014 with the development of secondary chips. Currently, TSMC is responsible for developing the Apple Silicon processing chips that power all Apple devices, and this collaboration is expected to continue in the future.
TSMC has now started developing a chip manufacturing plant in Arizona which is expected to be completed in 2024. Through this factory, Apple will also reportedly take advantage of it to manufacture a number of existing processing chips that will be built using the N5 and N4 processes, most likely for existing processing chips such as the Apple M2, Bionic A15, A16 and earlier.
This is not surprising because Apple is used to using processing chips developed 2-3 years ago for devices other than the iPhone, such as the iPad, Apple TV, Mac Mini and so on. Apple is also expected to take advantage of the factories that will be developed in the European region when it operates later.
The production of processing chips for the latest smart devices will still be developed by the main factory in Taiwan, especially for processing chips that will use TSMC's latest process, which is expected to be N3 (3nm) in the next two years.
