After several delays due to rocket engine damage and hurricane winds, the Artemis 1 space rocket developed by NASA finally successfully took off into space for a test mission around the moon.
Artemis 1 is the most powerful space rocket developed to date, using the Space Launch System rocket system and the Orion capsule that will take off into space and will circle the moon on a 25-day mission before returning to earth, to test the spacecraft's capabilities.
For the first test, the Artemis 1 rocket will orbit the moon with three human-sized mannequins to see how the rocket orbits the natural satellite, and re-enters the Earth's atmosphere when the mission is complete.
How the rocket re-enters Earth's atmosphere will determine if the Artemis 2 and 3 launches will introduce human crews on those missions.
If all these launches are seen as a success, NASA will start looking at landing on the moon in developing a colony there before starting the launch project to the planet Mars.
