This year, Android processing chips with Ray Tracing (RT) support have been launched such as the Exynos 2200, MediaTek Dimensity 9200 and the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. But there is still no first one that supports the RT feature which until now can only be enjoyed on PCs and consoles.
At the Snapdragon Summit event this morning, Qualcomm said the first to support RT through Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chips will appear in 2023. Several demos were shown with one of them being developed by Oppo itself. Oppo says the RT technology on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is capable of running developers at 720P 60FPS settings stably.
Apart from Oppo, another first from China was developed by NetEase also with the support of RT. More interestingly, several Android manufacturers have confirmed that they will support the first with RT on their Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 devices. With this the year 2023 will see the era of RT on mobile devices finally become a reality after the earliest demo we saw was 2 years ago also at the Snapdragon Summit event.
