Google Introduces Health Connect App – Local Hub for Health Data Control and Privacy

Google Fit is an application for monitoring the fitness and health data of users using Wear OS smart watches or other health trackers that support tethering to a Google Fit account. But with Wear OS 3.0, smart watches need to use their own apps and some brands also need foreign fitness apps to ensure all data is saved.

An example is the Pixel Watch. Controls and settings use the Pixel Watch app, but for fitness you need to use the Fitbit app. Now Google introduces a new application called Healt Connect as a local app to facilitate health and fitness data, connected to watches and Android devices.

This application can also control all privacy settings and it is a result of collaboration with Samsung. An example of the use of this application is, all sports activity data, exercise, running, pulse scan and others using the Nike Run Club application for example – can also be synced directly into the Fitbit application. This means data from other health apps can be shared with the user's smartwatch or health tracker app.

This feature is the same as Apple has long offered through Health built into iOS. When a smartwatch is connected, it will request access to data monitoring through Health and the user needs to allow it first. Currently, there are 10 apps that support Health Connect. Among them are Oura, MyFitnessPal, WeightWatchers, Lifesum and Fitbit and will be added in the future.
