In the car cabin speakers are usually placed on the bottom of the door panel, behind the passenger seat and on the bottom of the dashboard. It is easy to spot because there is a clearly visible grille for the air from the audio driver to emit sound. But LG Display has created a thin new speaker that allows it to be used as a decorative panel in the car cabin.
Each Thin Actuator Sound Solution speaker is only 15×9 cm, 2.5mm thick and weighs 40 grams. This makes it not only thinner but lighter than a typical audio system. Because of this it can be placed on the surface of the cabin such as the roof, pillars and anywhere else the vehicle manufacturer wants. With this a more comprehensive audio system can be included in the vehicle.
The lattice hole on this speaker is also not very noticeable so the audio system in the cabin will be more hidden. LG added that the Thin Actuator Sound Solution also does not require rare earth elements such as neodymium that need to be mined. So this audio system has a lower impact on the environment.
Thin Actuator Sound Solution was developed by LG with an undisclosed renowned audio company. It will be shown to the public at the CES 2023 event in Las Vegas next January.
