MediaTek Moves Some Of Their Supply Chain In Phases Out Of Taiwan

MediaTek has recently launched a number of new processing chips for various types of devices and uses. With the recent launch of the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 processor chip, the processor chip maker is seen on par with Qualcomm in terms of producing high-quality smart device processor chips.

Recently, a report from Reuters said that MediaTek has begun to gradually move their supply chain from Taiwan to countries such as the United States, Singapore and even the European region.

This is said to be due to the issue of economic sanctions between the United States and China, which is feared to have a detrimental effect on neighboring countries, especially Taiwan.

Speaking to Reuters during the launch event of their new processor chips last week, MediaTek confirmed that although their latest and most powerful processor chips are developed by TSMC in Taiwan, some of their smart device processor chip production has been transferred to other chip makers such as Global Foundries which has factories in the United States and Singapore.

In the meantime, MediaTek has also signed a joint agreement with Intel that will take advantage of their Intel 16 factory to manufacture processing chips for WiFi modems and also smart televisions by 2024.

This does not mean that MediaTek will completely move out of Taiwan. The country is still seen as the most important location for the development of the latest and most powerful processing chips on the market today.
