Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship chip was officially launched at the Snapdragon Summit held in Hawaii today. This flagship chip replaces the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 series as the most powerful chip offered by Qualcomm for use in Android devices.
According to Qualcomm, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 which maintains the use of 4nm technology provides up to 35% CPU increase, up to 25% GPU increase and at the same time provides up to 40% power consumption savings compared to previous generation chips.
The new 1+4+3 CPU core configuration is used with one CPU core 1x Cortex-X3 3.2GHz, 4x Cortex-A715 2.8GHz and 3x Cortex-A510 2.0 GHz. This is also matched with the latest Adreno GPU that supports gaming mode in HDR and also has Ray Tracing capabilities.
Through the latest Qualcomm Spectra ISP chip, a camera sensor of up to 200MP can be used or a tri-camera of 36MP simultaneously. Qualcomm says the ISP has been optimized to support the latest Samsung and Sony upcoming sensors. Video recording capabilities are still 8K 30p or 4K 120p with HDR support.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 also finally brings AV1 codec support that MediaTek chips have long supported. It reduces data usage while streaming but still maintains video quality. In terms of audio capabilities, dynamic spatial audio can be enjoyed with the ability to detect head movements and the latest ANC system.
The 5G network can be enjoyed and for the first time the Snapdragon series supports WiFi 7 which allows speeds to reach 5.8 Gbps through the Snapdragon X70 5G modem. Not ending here the chip also supports screens at 4K 60p or QHD+ 144Hz resolution. The memory is up to 16GB LPDRR5x
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will start to be used on devices that will be released as early as this December. So far ASUS Republic of Gamers, Honor, iQoo, Motorola, Nubia, OnePlus, Oppo, Redmagic, Redmi, SHARP, Sony Corporation, Vivo, Xiaomi, Xingji/Meizu, and ZTE are the first manufacturers to use this chip in devices their smart.
