There are many mice on the market now for various activities. Some are specific to gaming and some are specific to productivity. If you feel that the RM30 wireless mouse is comfortable and normal, don't be surprised if I say there are mice that cost hundreds of ringgit from brands you may have heard of such as Logitech or Razer.
The mouse that has recently arrived at the our lab is the Razer DeathAdder V3 Pro. It's the first Razer gaming mouse I've used. I who am used to productivity mouse like Logitech Master MX 3S started to try how great the capabilities of the mouse are claimed to be among the most precise and quite light. With a selling price of RM719, is the performance comparable to the price?
Specifications And Design
The Razer DeathAdder V3 Pro uses a tapered design at the front and wide at the back that is quite comfortable in the hand. It's an ergonomic design for gamers that I can say is also comfortable in my hand and doesn't make my fingers tired. This mouse also has buttons that feel good to press and are quite stable, where the buttons provided are as usual to press left and right on top, then there is an additional scroll wheel that can be pressed to change the CPI. There are two additional left and right buttons on the side for customizable quick access. Each button uses Razer Optical Mouse Switches Gen-3 for lag-free double-click capability and durability of up to 90 million clicks.
I understand the DeathAdder V3 Pro has more or less the same design as the previous model only this time it's neater. The Razer DeathAdder V3 Pro is equipped with a Razer Focus Pro 30K optical sensor with a resolution accuracy of 99.8%. This sensor is also powered by an artificial intelligence system to support Smart Tracking, Motion Sync and Asymmetric Cut-off.
Razer also claims that this mouse comes with the fastest wireless connection technology, which supports a response rate of 1000Hz with a time interval as low as 1ms. With the additional accessory Razer HyperPolling Wireless Dongle it can change the response rate to 4000Hz with a time interval of 0.25ms.
For wired connection, this mouse uses USB-C Speedflex cable for more flexible movement because the cable construction is soft. The construction of the Razer DeathAdder V3 Pro, on the other hand, feels quite solid even though it is light. There are no strange noises when the mouse is moved, only in rough use I accidentally hold it a bit rough and the plastic material used can feel the bending happening. But due to its rarity, so for me it's not a big issue.
Usage Experience
The mouse is also quite light and easy to handle where for a first-time user of a mouse like this, I'm quite surprised I'm comfortable with it. It's just that in the first two-three days of use, it's a bit awkward and almost thrown away because it's still unfamiliar. But over time it was stored in the memory and I continued to know how to operate this mouse well.
This mouse weighs 63 grams, which is very light compared to my daily mouse Logitech Master MX 3s which weighs 141 grams. This two-fold difference is so clear that it feels like a child's toy mouse.
But it is lightweight because it targets gamers who want fast and accurate movement in video games. As a reminder, the black color weighs 1 gram more than the white color due to the different paint process.
Razer DeathAdder V3 Pro is a wireless mouse with 1000Hz response rate which is not my favorite whether for productivity or video games. In fact, Razer also sells HyperPolling accessories to enable a response rate of up to 4000Hz which is very helpful in shooting games such as those involving rifles for more accurate shots.
The software for this mouse is Razer Synapse, where it needs to be used to change the settings on this mouse such as controlling the response rate, updating the software, changing the functions of additional buttons and can also set special profiles for different video games. Razer Synapse to me lacks an attractive interface design, and is a bit clumsy compared to the more user-friendly Logi Option+ software.
For my daily work, this mouse is very helpful in giving myself more comfort because of the light construction. But I realize it is not suitable to be tested just for the use of writing articles or editing pictures. This is because it is too light and the movement is very fast which makes me feel like I am being chased a little.
So I started testing on the video games I have like Counter Strike and Left 4 Dead, two classic video games that are very important with the use of the mouse to control movement. First of all it is very smooth and precise, like the movement of the characters and also the weapons. The lightweight design is easy to slide on a wide table for a lot of movement without feeling heavy and tired. Although I'm used to heavy mice, using the Razer DeathAdder V3 Pro made me want to keep trying lightweight mice.
The fast wireless connection with the claimed low latency also turned out to be true as I didn't notice a noticeable difference with the USB-C connection. The difference may be felt if using the additional Razer HyperPolling dongle. There is one more button under the mouse, which is for power and also DPI – it's nice because the button is flat so it's not easy to press in a gaming session but it gets annoying when in a gaming session you want to change another DPI rate. It is true that other buttons can be assigned to change their function as on the side – but quick access to other functions in the game will be lost.
The unit I tested is white, so it gets dirty easily especially for me who has sweaty hands. Every week I have to wipe and clean it which I'm sure this won't happen with black.
Last but not least is the battery life, which in my opinion is a bit weak after a month of use and needs to be charged compared to the Logitech Master MX 3S which needs to be charged every two months.
Conclusion
As someone who rarely plays video games, I feel that this mouse is not for me and I am more comfortable using the Logitech Master MX 3S. But after two months of usage, it gave me a very interesting usage experience. Challenging at first, but eventually becomes comfortable. No doubt it's a pretty awesome mouse, even in the box there is a sticker to give the mouse extra grip which for me helps a bit and the mouse also gets less dirty.
A little disappointing at the price of RM719, there is no Razer Chroma RGB lighting support and even though it is a Pro version – the real Pro features require an additional accessory worth RM149 which is the Razer HyperPolling wireless dongle. If purchased, the total price will reach RM868. For a mouse that costs almost RM900 it's not worth it to me, but it might benefit gamers out there.
