Ronna, Quetta, Ronto and Quecto Are New Prefixes for SI Units of Measure

Micro, kilo, nano and pico are the three prefixes we often hear for metric unit measurements. In old school the largest unit prefix was yotta for the number 1 followed by 24 zeros. The latest four prefixes for the unit were announced during the 27th general conference on weights and measures in Versailles. The four new prefixes announced are

Ronna (R) is 1027 or 1 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000

Quetta (Q) is 1030 or 1 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000

ronto (r) is 10−27 or 0.000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 001

quecto (q) is 10−30 or 0.000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 001

This conference held every four years is responsible for setting the IS units used around the world as various units of measurement. The last time a new measurement unit prefix was introduced was in 1991 when zetta (1021) and yotta (1024) were announced. Ronna and Quetto are added for data science needs which because yotta is now no longer enough.
