Satellite Call Feature On iPhone 14 Will Be Activated Later This Month

Sir iPhone 14 and 14 Pro can make emergency calls via satellite connection. Although this feature was advertised when the device was launched last September, it will only be activated at the end of this month. Apple says it is investing $450 million into Globalstar's infrastructure to offer this feature to its customers in the United States.

Globalstar has 24 low earth orbit satellites that allow not only phone calls to be made in an emergency but also send SMS complete with GPS information to allow location to be tracked when needed.

At this time this emergency feature will be offered free for two years to owners of the iPhone 14 series with a yet-to-be-announced subscription plan. Support outside the United States has also not been confirmed.
