Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Optimized For Samsung's 200MP And Sony's 1-Inch Sensors

This year saw Samsung launch the ISOCELL HP3 200MP camera sensor which is the largest ever produced in mobile device history. With this sensor to be used on the Galaxy S23 series, Qualcomm confirmed that the two companies have worked together to ensure that this sensor will work with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Through this collaboration, sharper, brighter and clearer pictures can be taken using ISP Spectra on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This is necessary because a large sensor size alone is not enough to produce high quality images.

In addition to Samsung, Qualcomm also collaborated with Sony to support the IMX 989 QDOL4 1-inch and IMX 800 QDOL4 1/1.5″ sensors. On the Sony sensor, Sony's Quad Exposure HDR system support will also be provided. Quad Exposure combines four images at different exposures to produce a high dynamic range while reducing noise compared to HDR systems that only use two images with different exposures.

By partnering with two of the world's largest mobile device camera sensor manufacturers, Qualcomm will try to maintain their dominance in the DXOMark list from the point of view of camera performance.
