In Kuala Lumpur there are three skyscrapers that have been or will be among the tallest in the world. The Petronas Twin Towers are 88 floors high, The Exchange 106 is 95 floors high and the tallest is Merdeka 118 which is 118 floors high. The construction of tall buildings is seen as a symbol of national progress.
But in Singapore the design of the 8 Shenton Way building has just been shown and when it is completed it will be the tallest building in the country. It only has 63 floors in total and it will house a shopping mall, office space and luxury residences.
With a height of 305 meters, it is also the first super-tall building in Singapore's history. The building designed by architecture firm SOM takes inspiration from bamboo trees that grow in groups. There are several platforms housing green space around the building. Its location located between the Central Business District and Marina Bay is seen to make it an exclusive building. 8 Shenton Way is expected to be completed by 2028.
