YouTube Shorts is a competitor to TikTok, but YouTube's offering to content creators isn't all that compelling. For example, the editing tool is slow, there are not many interesting features and the songs that can be inserted are limited to 15 seconds only.
After numerous complaints, YouTube is now allowing content creators to put 60 seconds of songs into their respective Shorts videos. YouTube has updated their licensing to allow this. However, some songs will be limited to 30 seconds only due to the limited usage license.
This feature will start rolling out in stages over the next week. Android and iOS users will see that the audio selection section will have songs with a duration of up to 60 seconds. The duration of this 60-second song is parallel to the duration of YouTube Shorts short videos which are also limited to 60 seconds.
