Google today announced that it will merge the teams behind their navigation applications, namely Google Maps and Waze.
With this step, management related to the development of navigation features will continue more easily. Regardless, there are no plans to merge the two apps, and both will operate separately as is.
This combination and integration is expected to enable better sharing of technical matters. Previously, Google had taken over Waze in 2013, and it operated independently until then.
