HTC Will Launch AR Headset At CES 2023

Haven't heard from HTC in a while. After focusing on their Vive VR headset business, HTC smartphones are no longer officially offered in Malaysia with sales focus only on the East Asian market. According to The Verge, HTC will return to the global market by launching their augmented reality (AR) headset at CES 2023 this January.

This standalone headset will give competition to the Meta Quest Pro. Among the confirmed features it can do is to do color AR passthrough mode like Quest Pro. Because it is self-contained, no other hardware is required to function. One advantage of this headset is that it will be equipped with a depth detection sensor to provide more accurate tracking in the virtual world.

In Malaysia only Pico officially offers AR headsets. Meta is not yet ready to sell it although the Meta Quest is among the devices that can be tried at their headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. With Samsung and Apple also entering the AR arena in the near future, will HTC be able to stay competitive or will it be hit by a storm like their smartphone business?
