iPhone 14's Emergency Satellite Communications Feature Rolls Out To Ireland, Germany, France And UK

On the iPhone 14 series, device owners can perform satellite communications in emergency situations when there is no cellular access. This feature was activated for users in the United States in mid-November. Today this feature is expanded to Ireland, Germany, France and the UK.

To use this feature, the device needs to be updated to iOS version 16.1. After that the feature of testing satellite communication in an emergency situation can be tried. Through it communication using text only can be done with the user being asked to provide important information such as what type of emergency as well as some frequently asked questions. It is sent to a satellite which then contacts a nearby emergency aid center.

Apple invested $450 million into Globalstar, a company that has a network of 24 satellites orbiting the earth to enable emergency communications.
