John Carmack announced he has resigned from Meta where he held the role of virtual reality executive advisor. He previously held the position of CTO of Oculus before the business was bought by Meta and he was also involved in the development of the first three-dimensional video game Wolfenstein 3D.
According to Carmack he resigned due to frustration with the development of VR hardware at Meta. The product that has been developed does not meet his vision and does not reach the targeted level. Carmack added that the team developing VR/AR products at Meta was not operating at high efficiency.
After resigning his position he will focus on personal cross-budget companies. Despite his disappointment with his experience at Meta, Carmack still believes they are still the company in the best place to enable VR to offer value to the world's population.
