Riot Games Sues NetEase, Hyper Front Suspected of Valorant Plagiarism

Riot Games recently sued NetEase. It is suspected that a game called Hyper Front, published by NetEase, committed plagiarism against Valorant.

The owner of the game League of Legends brought the case to court in England, Germany, Brazil and Singapore. This was conveyed directly by Riot Games lawyer, Dan Nabel, as reported by us from Polygon.

From the information presented, the demands filed in each country are slightly different. It's just that, according to Nabel, the core problem remains the same, which is related to copying content from Valorant.

From the lawsuit in England, it can be seen that there are similarities in parts of the characters, maps, weapons, weapon skins, and charms. Even Riot Games even compared it to the weapon stats between Valorant and Hyper Front.

Actually, NetEase itself has slightly modified the game they made, since Riot Games' first lawsuit. But unfortunately, it turns out that it's not enough and they still think that copyright infringement is more than that.

"We don't think that changing the color of a character's ability or slightly modifying the visual appearance changes the fact that it's a copyright infringement. It's like the old saying, you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig," said Nabel.

It is known that Riot Games is currently seeking a trial, to force NetEase to close Hyper Front. It didn't stop there, the owner of the Valorant also asked for substantial compensation, the amount of which is not yet known.

Nabel said that they are presenting this matter to many courts. According to him every country in the world has different laws.

"We don't want to depend on one particular market to solve this problem. NetEase is a global publisher, like us. We want them to know that we take this matter very seriously," concluded Nabel.
