The Minister of Communications and Digital, Fahmi Fadzil now stated that all parties need to wait for the decision of the council of ministers regarding the direction of the implementation of the 5G network in Malaysia.
For now, it has been discussed between the Ministry of Finance, and is in the process of finding a solution for it.
Previously, it had been determined that the implementation of the 5G network was done through a single wholesale provider, namely through Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB). According to the initial target, DNB aims to reach 80% coverage of populated areas by 2024.
It is not yet known whether the spectrum will be divided to other providers, or will continue with the implementation through DNB.
The Minister of Communications also stated that the problems related to the implementation of the 5G network in Malaysia need to be resolved immediately before stepping into the 6G network era.
