The Google Pixel 8 Camera Is Said To Use A New HDR System

The Google Pixel is one of the best devices for taking HDR photos. Be it a flagship device or a mid-range device, the technology that Google brings to the Google Camera app is pretty awesome.

Now, independent developer Kuba Wojciechowski found evidence that the Google Pixel 8 will soon offer a new HDR system. It is said to be staggered HDR or phased HDR. By integrating this feature in the Pixel 8, the HDR image results will be of better quality. This feature allows HDR images of different light exposures to be taken simultaneously to save post-processing time.

Kuba found evidence in the code of the Google Camer Go app that lists Pixel 2023 flagship devices will use this feature. The devices codenamed Husky and Shiba are expected to be for Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Then this staggered HDR feature also requires a new sensor, as it is not supported on the ISOCELL GN1 used on the Pixel 7. This suggests that the Pixel 8 will probably use an ISOCELL GN2 sensor.

For now it is too early to know the details of Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Let's stay tuned for more details on this new feature.
