The Last Boeing 747 to Be Built Ends 54 Years of Production

The last Boeing 747 was built at the Boeing factory located in Everett, Washington. With this, the production of the aircraft that received the nicknames Jumbo and Queen of Space finally ended after 54 years.

Atlas Air which is a cargo airline became the last customer of this Boeing 757-8 aircraft. This aircraft model is also the longest commercial airplane currently operating. Since 1967, a total of 1574 Boeing 747s have been built and they are also used by Malaysia Airlines.

The pandemic has caused giant planes to be grounded by airlines to reduce operating costs. Twin-engine aircraft such as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Airbus A350 are seen as a more sustainable option. Airbus first ended production of their double-decker A380 in 2021 as it failed to steal the 747's throne as queen of the air.

In its operational history beginning in 1969, the 747 became a major airline status symbol. A specially designed model modified into Air Force One for the use of the president of the United States. It was also involved in the worst air crash tragedy in history in Tenerife which resulted in 583 deaths.
