Twitter has once again changed their site's terms of service (TOS) overnight this time regarding sharing links to competitor social media sites. Users are no longer allowed to upload links to competitor social media pages Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Post and Nostr. Links to social media aggregate pages such as linktr.ee and link.bio are also not allowed.
Accounts that send tweets linking to other social media accounts in the form of a URL or account name such as “Please follow Instagram account @thecekodok” will initially be asked to delete tweets. Accounts can also be locked if links are placed in personal bio. If the error is repeated several times, the account will be suspended forever.
This recent TOS change makes no sense because it is common for Twitter users to also have other social media pages. Now a link to an image shared to Instagram or a long note on Faceook will cause the account to hang.
As a person who prioritizes freedom of speech, Elon Musk is now blocking the freedom to share URLs to competitor social media pages. More interesting is that the new TOS will cause the official Facebook and Instagram accounts on Twitter to hang immediately as both have links to their pages in the bio.
